JANUARY/FEBRUARY 2009
Wise or Foolish?
January brings a new month and year and another opportunity to serve the Lord. Many make resolutions that they are not able to keep or forget before they even get started. The Lord illuminated a particular verse and has planted it in my heart. Ecclesiastes 10:12 says, “The words of a wise man’s mouth are gracious; but the lips of a fool will swallow up himself.” We have two choices in this verse. We can be thought of as kind and gracious or we can be thought of as a fool. It is easy to speak as a fool but to speak with wisdom will take quite a lot of preparation and prayer. We know from the scriptures that the “…heart of the wise teacheth his mouth,” (Proverbs 16:23) James tells us that if any man lacks wisdom, let him ask of God. This is where the preparation comes in and where we could very easily loose sight of this and be thought a fool. God’s Word is of paramount importance in obtaining this desire of being thought of as wise. We have heard many times that whatever you take in is what will come out. If we are not reading the Word we must be continually meditating on it. When thoughts come that may lead to foolish words we have to meditate on things that are true, honest, just, pure, lovely, of good report, virtuous, and praise worthy. This, my friend, is not an easy task but is the only way we will be thought of as wise. When 2009 ends and I look back, I desire to be thought of as gracious and not foolish. My prayer is that this will be your desire also.
Written by the two that has only one mind between them,
