The
Royal Law: James 2:8
In a recent study of the
book of James I was arrested by one phrase in verse 8, “If ye
fulfill the royal law…” I began to look closely at the term
‘royal law’ and was sadly reminded of just how far our society has come
in ignoring the ‘royal law’.
The Bible, (God’s
royal law) has come to us at great cost. No book has ever been written
that has an author likened unto this author, God. Nearly 4,000 times
in the Old Testament alone, we see, ‘God said’, ‘God spoke’, ‘the Lord
commanded’. Its words are a ‘lamp unto our feet and a light unto our
path’. It contains healing for the physical, emotional, and
spiritual sicknesses that we encounter in our lives. People have died
for this Bible, people have lived by this Bible, yet today we see so
many ignoring the truths of this Bible.
We are in a time in
history when we see judges lose their position because they will not
have the Ten Commandments removed from their courthouses. All mention of
a Holy God has been taken from our schools and stadiums. And now we have
seen a precious life taken because of greed and the commandment ‘Thou
shalt not kill’ has been grossly ignored. And because of these
changes in our society we have seen a drastic deterioration of morals
and behaviors not only in adults but in the lives of our precious
children, the upcoming leaders of this world.
We would that all
could have the insight that God has so graciously shared with me during
my lifetime, but we know that revelation is a gift from God. I don’t
glory in this revelation but it causes me to prostrate myself and say, ‘Holy,
Holy, Holy, Thou art Holy’. And now I have the blessing of seeing
our grandchildren being taught the principles and truth of God’s
Word. What a blessing it is to hear them say their verses and to listen
to them sing the words to the great Hymns of the faith while they play
with their play dough. It’s our responsibility to pass on this great
knowledge from God’s Royal Law. It changes lives, cures sicknesses,
gives rest to the emotionally distraught. If God has revealed His Royal
Law to you, you should also be praising his name and giving Him glory.
The story has been
told of a prisoner of war camp in Burma in the 1940’s. It was a camp of
mud and filth, grueling labor, and brutal treatment by the Japanese
guards. Little food caused the law of the camp to be every man for
himself. One prisoner shared his last crumb of food with another man.
This caused his death. Among his belongings was found a Bible. The
prisoners began to wonder if this could be the reason that he so
willingly shared his last morsel. They began to read the Word and soon
the Spirit of God began to grip their hearts and change their
lives. Within twelve months the camp was clean, the beds were de-bugged
and Christmas morning found 2,000 men at worship. Yes, God’s Royal Law
has power likened unto any other. It has changed lives, it is changing
lives, and it will continue to change lives until such time that the
Lord makes one last statement, ‘Come up here’. But until then
make every effort to hold to, and hold up to our children and
grandchildren, this book God’s Royal Law.
Until next time,
