Elijah’s Trust From a Bullock

Let us muse today on the great text of  I Kings 18: 25-41. The bullock has two pictures in our text. To the Baal worshipper he was the god of this world as seen as the devil, to Elijah he was the God of all as seen in Christ. Elijah  put a challenge before them, to offer a bullock and the first god to answer by fire is the true God. The Ball worship involved a altar, leaping around, cutting one self, and crying  as loud as one could. What was the results? NOTHING! Elijah’s worship involved 12 stones. ” On Christ the solid rock I stand”. He put the wood in order. The wood speaks of ” On a hill far away stood an old rugged cross the emblem of suffering and shame”.  He also drenched the altar with three barrels of water. The water pictures the word of God. ” let the Word of God dwell in you richly”. The three barrels speak of the Trinity. ( GOD The Father, GOD The Son, and GOD The Holy Spirit) The worship involved a short, about 62 word prayer. What happen? The fire fail and later the rain poured. I wonder if our prayers had more word, cross, and adoration of the Godhead in them if the results would not be different. In verse 39 the Baal worshippers cried The LORD He is God, The LORD He is God, which is the meaning of Elijah’s name.  I am glad I can say the LORD He is my God.
