A Furthering Purpose

Let us muse today from Philippians 1:14-17. It is here we find the furthering purpose behind Paul’s prison. I see in verse 14 A furthering confidence.Paul said his bonds had caused him to wax confident. The phrase wax confident means to be made sure. Our boldness to share the gospel in an unwelcome situation will cause boldness in others. Zeal produces zeal. I see in verses 15-16 a furthering confession. Paul said some preach with envy, strife, contention, and not sincerely. All of these are words that give the idea of doing something for the soul purpose of making someone else look bad. Paul said others preached out of love and good will. Let our desire in sharing the gospel always be to help and never to hurt. I see in verse 17b a furthering communication. Paul said he was set for the defense of the gospel. No circumstance will stop him. In Romans he said I am a debtor,I am ready, and I am not ashamed. Paul drew his I am from the great I am.
