The Principles Of Perception
Let us muse a few moments today from Philippians 1:20-24. The subject dealt with here is the principles of perception. Our Lord never makes suggestions, but lays down never changing principles. I see in verses 21-22 the principle of Paul’s goal. He calls the goal his earnest expectation. This goal gives him the hope that things will turn out exactly as God has planned. The goal is that if he live or dies he wants Christ to be magnified in his body. The word magnified does not mean to make a small thing big. The Lord is not small and He is bigger now than we can handle. The word means to bring that which is afar off up close so that it is clear and understandable. Our time of being shut up by unwelcome situations or often for Christ to be magnified through us. I see in verses 22-24 the principle of Paul’s going. Paul’s desire is to depart and go to heaven which would be far better. The principle led him to want to stay which is far better for others. Anyone in his right mind would not choose prison over heaven, but to stay would help God’s people in their walk with the Lord. Let us make our decisions based on what it will do for others and not our selves.
