Timothy A Pattern For Service

Let us continue to muse from Philippians 2:19-24. It is in the section that Paul gives us the example of Timothy a pattern for service. If we are to respond properly to unwelcome situations we must have a servants heart. In verse 19 I see Timothy’s marvelous selection. In verse 19a we find Paul’s confidence. It is in the Lord Jesus Christ. In verse 22 the proof of confidence was that he was Paul’s son in the faith living out the gospel. In verse 19b I see Paul’s concern. He said he would feel better when he knew first hand the state of the church from Timothy’s mouth. In verse 20-21 I find Timothy’s manner of service. In verse 20 we find he was like minded. He thought like Paul who had the mind of Christ. In verse 21 we find he was selfless. Timothy did not seek to do things to satisfy self. Jesus in Luke 9:59-61 dealt with a me first mentally. A man wanted to follow Christ, he said let me first go bury my father. Another wanted to follow but said let me first go bid farewell to my family. Our Lord was not against burying the dead or saying goodbye, but the me first thinking. Timothy had only the thought of others in his mind and heart. Let us trace this pattern out for our lives.
