Good Ground Seen By Matthew 2

Let us muse today from Matthew’s account of the good ground. There are some powerful puzzle parts in the Gospels about the good ground. In 13:8 the Bible tells us that the seed fell into the ground. The other seeds fell only upon the ground. This seed fell into the ground where it would take root and germinate. Our God is in control of even how the seed falls into the heart of a person. In verse 23 we find a powerful progression of words. The process first begins with the word received.  The word received means to scatter, sow, and the root of the word means drawn into. Then we are told ‘he heareth, understandeth, beareth, and bringeth forth fruit’. The word heareth means to come into the ears but there is an addition of he understandeth. The word understandeth means to comprehend mentally and causes one to act piously. God is the only one who can open the understanding. Acts speaks of Lydia of whom the Lord opened her heart. The text of Matthew speaks of the good ground that it beareth and bringeth forth fruit. The word beareth means a seed that has been made fertile. The word bringeth means to cause or make to come forth. How could we study these words and feel that we have any part in our salvation? Yes, we must receive, profess, and say yes to our Lord, but remember God causes all of these to come to pass. We do none of these of our own volition.
