The Founding Of The Church At Smyrna

Let us begin today to muse from Revelation 2 on the church at Smyrna. What a blessing it would be to receive an encouraging letter from the Lord with no words of criticism about our manner of life. The word Smyrna means to be strengthened and to become a perfume of a sweet fragrance. My, how this church was strengthened and was giving off a sweet aroma to the Lord. Smyrna was a coastal town with a population of about 100,000. It is probably the oldest city addressed in Revelation. It has roots that date back to about 1700 BC. They had a temple built to the great goddess of Rome. What a place to plant a church to the glory of God. He loves to plant His church in the most unlikely place of our human thoughts.
