Preventing In Providence

Let us muse today from Genesis 37:31-35 and ‘Jacob’s Preventing Of Providence’. In our text Jacob hears of Joseph’s so-called death and refuses to be comforted. He seems not to grow any after all he has been through. In Genesis 28 he left home young and his Mom dies before he comes home again. In Genesis 29 he worked 14 years to marry Rachel. In Genesis 34 his daughter is raped. In Genesis 35 he experiences the death of his faithful nurse Deborah and his wife Rachel. He refuses to be comforted although God has sent plenty of trouble to prepare him. He spends the next 25 years bitter and depressed.
