Forgiveness Defined

Let us begin today to muse on the subject of Forgiveness. We will begin to meditate on Psalm 103:1-12. The word ‘forgiveness’ in its very basic definition means to pardon, remit a sin or offense, and to pay a debt in full. It has as the root thought of to absolve and to act as if it never happened or was never committed. Our Lord’s forgiveness is not similar to our thought of being paroled but of our being pardoned. If one is paroled and messes up, he must return and serve the whole time of the sentence. If one is pardoned and messes up there is nothing on his record that indicates he owes anything. I do not have a record with the Lord. I have but Christ’ record as my account. I am fully forgiven and stand before God in Christ’ stead, having never committed the least sin.
