Forgiveness Encountered
Let us muse again today from Psalm 103:1-12 and the Forgiveness Of God Encountered. I see some thoughts in our text that tell me it is an Amazing Encounter. We are asked in verse 2 ‘not to forget His benefits.’ The word means the bounty bestowed on those who do not deserve them. In verse 3 one of the benefits He underlines is that He ‘forgiveth all our iniquities.’ The word ‘forgive’ has an ‘eth’ ending which indicates that it is unending. The word means to never remember anymore. In verse 10 we are told that He never deals with His children on the basis of their sin. How can that be? Simple. He cannot remember them. In verse 12 we are told ‘He removes them as far as the east is from the west.’ Why these two directions? They do not have poles. They never cross and neither will our sin get back with us once He removes them. In verse 11 we are told of His mercy which is God withholding from me what I deserve. When Columbus stepped on the Atlantic shore line of this North American continent little did he know it reached as far as Canada, California, and Mexico. So it was with my encounter with mercy. I did not know and neither shall I ever know how vast is its depths.
