The Directing Work

Let us muse today from Genesis 37 and Joseph and The Directing Of His Life by a Sovereign God towards a Wounded Spirit. In verses 14-17 I find ‘The Interposing Work’. The word ‘interpose’ means to inject ones self into a situation with the purpose of directing. Joseph found himself in Hebron which means intimate oneness. He was sent by his earthly father to Shechem which means a place of unbearable pain and burden. The Bible tells us in verse 15 that ‘a certain man’ led him down to Dotham to meet with the greatest wound upon an innocent soul. The phrase ‘certain man’ is our word for husbandman. In John 15 Jesus said, ‘I am the vine, ye are the branches, my Father is the husbandman.’ The Father is the director who led Joseph in the time of a great wound. What a blessing to know, in the times of our worse, it is not out of control but under the direction of God.
