A Half-baked Cake Metaphor
Let us in muse today from Hosea 7:6-8 and the half baked cake metaphor. Israel is referred to in verse eight as a cake not turned. In verse six the baker has fallen asleep with apathy. The cake is not turned and because of this it is burnt on one side and half done on the other side. They have mixed themselves with the world in verse eight and are not worth anything but to be thrown out as a half-baked cake. Let us at the church be careful not to be in the sleep of apathy. Let us be sober and on guard lest we find ourselves mixing with the world and worth nothing in our effectiveness and become as a cake to be thrown out. What a sad commentary on a life that should have been lived for the Lord, that one would end up just a half-baked cake.
