THE Gray-haired Metaphor
Let us muse today from Hosea 7:8-11 and the gray-haired metaphor. Israel has mixed with the world and because of this the world has devoured their strength and their hair has turned gray and yet they know it not. In verse two we find it is all wrapped up in pride. How often has the world robbed us of our spiritual strength and we will not admit it. It is like a man who has gray hair and acts as if he sees it not. Old people are not always wise people and young people are not always strong people. Let us be careful lest our closeness to the world saps us of our spiritual discernment and ability to get a hold of the Lord.
