Musing Through Matthew- Sheep,Wolves,Serpents,Doves
Let us muse again today from Matthew 10: 16 and the theme of Jesus the King. In our text today our Lord draws attention to a not so compatible group of animals when He speaks of sheep, wolves, serpents, and doves. Our Lord begins this text with the word behold which has the idea of giving one your undivided attention. He said I send you as sheep among wolves. What a fearful thing unless we know He has sent us and because of that wolves must bow. In order for us as sheep to deal with the wolves of this world we will have to be as wise as serpents. A Child of God must be full of the word to have such wisdom. Then in order to affect the wolves of the world we must be as harmless as doves. We must be filled with the Spirit of God in order to have this dove like quality. Oh how the spiritual combination of wise as serpents and harmless as doves causes the wolves to be conquered and changed.
