Musing through Matthew – Greatest Of Signs

Let us muse again today from Matthew 16: 4 and the theme of Jesus The King. In our text for today we see the greatest of signs. He calls these sign seekers a wicked and an adulterous generation. He then gives the story of Jonah as the greatest of all signs. He sees Himself as the fulfillment of Jonah. Jonah was buried in a whale, arose from that grave of death and went on to preach the gospel of repentance and win a Gentile nation. Jesus fulfilled Jonah’s story and so much more. Jesus died on a cross, arosefrom the grave and paid the price that would be the source of saving a Gentile people that no man could number. Jesus realized that there was nothing to be done with this generation, so He left them and departed. Lord do not leave us alone, what a dark time that would be.
