Musing through Matthew – We Can Do Nothing Without Christ
Let us muse again today from Matthew 17: 13 – 16 and the theme of Jesus the King. In our text for study today we are confronted with one of the greatest truce of all, I can do nothing without Christ. Jesus has come from the lofty heavenly mountain of the Transfiguration. He arrives back to the earthly now and is confronted with a demon possessed lunatic boy, a father who is helpless to do anything, and the disciples who are defeated. The man says to Jesus “I brought him to Thy disciples, and they could not cure him”. Oh how often we have brought our problems to even the godliest of Christians and they could not help. He now goes to the Master. This should be our first place we go. He fell down at Jesus’ feet and said “Lord have mercy upon my son”. The position of humility always moves our Lord to shower us with Grace. Remember if the greatest and closest of Jesus disciples couldn’t solve his problem where does that leave us except to confess without Christ I can do nothing.
