Anticipated Person

Let us muse on the last verse of I Thessalonians one today. Verse ten says, ” And to wait for His Son from heaven, whom He raised from the dead, even Jesus, which delivered us from the wrath to come. This verse answers four questions about Jesus the person we wait for in this hour. The first is Who are we waiting for? The text tells us His Son, which refers back to verse nine the living and true God. So today we wait for the living and true Son of God. The second question answered is, Where is He coming from? Our text simply tells us heaven, but that my friend is a mouth full. That is where our loved ones are, He told them they would never part, so I am confident they will be with Him. Heaven is the place where they pave the streets with gold. Why stay here? We can’t even afford tar any more. The third question that is answered is What did He do? We are told God raised Him from the dead. Why zero in on  this one part of the gospel? He is telling us because He was raised it matters not how long we might have to wait, we will never see a grave. To be absent from here is to be present there. The fourth question that is answered is, What has He done, and what is He going to do? The word delivered is in a tense that tells us there has been a past action that gives an assurance of present results. We have been delivered from the wrath of hell, because of His death on the cross. We will be delivered from the wrath of the tribulation because He was raised from the dead. While we wait it sure is good to have all the answers.
