The Will Of Assurance

Today we are musing again from the motel. We have now come into I Thessalonians chapter 4. This text gives us great assurance while we  wait for the King. Let us muse today on verse 3-5 were we find the will of assurance. In verse 3 Paul says this is the will of God for us. When God imposes His will upon us, it always comes with the ability to obey. We have no ability in and of our selves. In verse 3 he deals with sexual purity and the key word is abstain. The word fornication is used which means any sexual behavior outside of the bonds of marriage. It is our Lord’s will we abstain. Remember with His will comes the ability to obey. The word abstain means to hold back, to refrain, and to distance ones self. Joseph in the O. T. ran so fast when confronted with fornication he left his coat. In verse four we find His will is for us to possess our vessels and the key word is possess. Our vessel would involve our thinking, feelings and our doings. The word possess means to get owner ship over. Remember with His will comes the ability to obey. In verse five we find His will deals with lustful passions and the key words are, not as the Gentiles are. He uses the word concupiscence which means a longing for anything that is forbidden. The gentiles lived as dogs, if it feels good do it was their motto. Remember with His will comes the ability to obey for the child of God.
