The Admonishment About Devotions

Let us continue to muse today on I Thessalonians 5:16-22, where Paul gives us admonishment about our devotions while we wait for the King. In verse 16-18 I find Paul speaks of upward devotions. The word rejoice means to be exceedingly glad. This is a realm we can not enter unless  our affection are set on the upward world. In verse 17 this upward walk leads us to pray without ceasing. That would be a pretty long prayer. I believe we are told here to always be in a spirit of prayer. As one has said it matters not how long you pray, but it better not have been long since you prayed. In verse 18 we are told to give thanks in, not for, everything. How can I? Everything that happens to us  has been a part of God’s ordained will. In verses 19- 20 Paul speaks of  inward devotions. Our relationship with the Holy Ghost should always be right. In verse 20 we should always be obedient to a word from God. (Despise not prophesyings) In verse 21-22 Paul speaks of outward devotions. The word prove means to sun test. Let us bring everything under the light of God’s word. Paul says when we find the good hold on to it for dear life. In verse22 we are told to flee from anything even if  it looks evil. How is our devotions going?
