The Pronouncement Of The Earnest

Let us continue to muse on Romans 8 today from the theme of possessing our position. We have been musing on the earnest of the Holy Ghost. Today we will look at 8:16-17 and the pronouncement of the earnest. In verse 16 I find the pronouncement in present tense. Paul said , the Spirit bears witness with our spirit’s that “We Are” the children of God. A young lady once told a preacher after a sermon on Christ living in us, that something in her was doing hand springs. The preacher said oh His Spirit was bearing witness with your spirit.  In verse 17  I find the pronouncement of a personal treasure. The treasure is the fact we are joint heirs with Christ. The phrase joint heir means we will not share the inheritance with everyone, but we will all get what Christ gets. He will get it all and so will I.  In our close of musing on the earnest I told you one meaning was the down payment. The other is an engagement ring. The Holy Spirit is our engagement ring to remind us of our pending marriage to Christ.
