Hope Established
Let us continue to muse from Romans 8 today, the theme of which is possessing our position. I want to begin to muse on verses 17b-25 today. I am calling this section hope established, in our route to possessing our position in Christ. The christian life is not a ride on the good ship lolly pop, but we are on the old ship of Zion. It is here God will often dash our hopes and spoil our expectations. We will want to throw in the towel and say, “what’s the use”? A sure hope will cause us to hope when there is no hope. Look today at verses 18 and 20 where we see the lost of hope through suffering. In verse 20 we find the reason for suffering. We are subjected to the vanity of suffering, that we might be driven to Christ the person of all hope. In verse 18 we find the response to suffering. The word reckon is a business term which means to place to the account of another. We are to believe that what we are going through today will not compare to the glory that will be our position in the world to come. Let us remember when we respond right to our troubles, hope is our portion.
