Moisture And The Stony Ground

Let us muse today on some final thoughts about the seed sown in the stony ground. In Luke8:13 the text said they believed for a while and then fell away. They gave all the indications of a true convert by today’s weak standards to test a true conversion. They believed but only for a while. For those who think salvation is in only believing do not know where to put them. We of course believe once saved always saved, so we say they must be back sliding. I can not over emphasize the need to watch the new convert a while, before we count them in. When I was a boy, mom and dad belonged to a church where if one made a profession they took you in under the watch care of the church for six months before you were allowed to be baptized and make a public confession. I wonder why they believed but for a while? I find two things in Luke’s  account that led to their falling away. In Luke 8:6 it says they lacked moisture. The thought of the moisture of water speaks of ones relationship to the word of God. The second thing that led to their fall was a time of temptations. When Satan sent a strong desire toward evil, they had no strength from the word and thus they fell away. Do not think for a minute they lost their salvation or back slid. They fell away because they never truly believed unto salvation. They  believed, but He never gave them the power to become the sons  of god.
