Matthew’s Account Of The Thorny Ground

Let us muse today from Matthew 13:7 and 22, the account of the thorny ground. We are told in verse 22 that the word or seed was received. The word received means a quick act of reception to appease ones feelings. We are told they heard the word. The word hear means to perceive with the human ear. I see immediately these are acts of the natural man and not the spiritual man. We are told in verse 22 that the seed was choked out by the deceitfulness of riches. The word choked means to suffocate all the life from another. The word deceitfulness means to trick or beguile. They were tricked by a love for things, money, and it choked seed of any life. We are told the seed was unfruitful and barren. It contributed nothing of spiritual value. What a sad state of affairs for the seed sown on thorny ground. Oh how many sit on the church pews who live on the thorny ground. We have a plant that grows over 700 million acres of the south called Kudzu. It chokes out everything in its path. One called a talk show and ask what he should do about a patch of Kudzu growing in his back yard? The radio announcer said “move”. If there is any thorny ground near your spiritual life, flee, move, or it will choke the life out of you.
