Founding Of The Church At Pergamos

Let us begin today to muse on the founding of the Church at Pergamos. This church was in Pergamum. It was the official seat of government for the Empire of Asia. It is what Washington, DC is to the United States. There was a Temple erected for the worship of Caesar Augustus, the Roman Emperor, as a god. Let us be careful that we do not look to our leaders to be our saviour. There is but one Saviour and it is the Lord Jesus Christ. They also had a temple to worship Zeus, the god of idolatry and obsession with sexual pleasure. These are two areas where the church can go astray today. One is looking to government as a possible help in solving our world problems. The second is the possibility of being obsessed with sexual pleasures. Let us remember in our walk with Christ that there is no salvation in our government and every thing sexual pleasure demands must not be obeyed.
