Founding The Church Of Sardis
Let us muse today from the church at Sardis mentioned in Revelation 3:1-6. Sardis was the commercial center in the Mediterranean for several centuries before the birth of Jesus. They were known for their red dyes and woolen goods. It was surrounded on three sides by cliffs and was thought by all to be impenetrable. This finally led to their fall. They were over confident and careless in watching for the enemy to come in. The church is often the strongest when facing a challenge or hardship but she is weakest when there are calm seas and smooth sailing. Our strength can often become our greatest weakness.
