Hope’s Weight
We muse today on Hebrews 6: 18-20 which says, “… we might have a strong consolation who have fled for refuge to lay hold up the hope set before him: Which hope we have as an anchor of the soul, both sure and steadfast, and which enter within the veil; Whither the forerunner is for us entered, even Jesus…” The anchor is a weight which steadies the boat on course. I see here a blessed weight. This anchor of hope is tied on one end to Christ on His throne and the other end is tied to me. O what a blessed assurance of Jesus is mine. I see in our text a buoyant weightin the words “sure and steadfast”. These are words to describe buoyancy. You might say what’s that? Ivory Soap has buoyancy, press it under, it just pops back up. Then we find the becoming weight. Our Lord while sitting on His throne prays for me and at the same time pulls me to himself. How does one know he is pulling us in. One was flying a kite in the fog and clouds, all that could be seen was the string in the boys hand. One asked how do you know you have a kite up there? The boy said because I feel a tug on the other end. I know I am anchored because I feel a tug from the other side from time to time. That pull from the other world sure gives me hope.
