Jacob’s Personal Preservation

Let us muse today from Genesis 32 and ‘Jacob’s Personal Preservation’. I see in verses 6-8 when he finds Esau is coming to meet him, he aligns his family with his favorites last. He is with the last group as well. Once again it is all about self. It is here that he will deal with his personal life. In verse 24 we find that Jacob is left alone at Jabbok. The word ‘Jabbok’ means ’emptied of self ‘and the only way to accomplish this is to be alone with God. In verse 27 Jacob becomes honest with God and tells Him his name which means, heel holder, deceptive one, cheat, and liar. My, how a confrontation with the living God will cause us to see self and realize that it is not worth preserving.
