Practice Of The Staff’s Death

Let us muse today from Genesis 32:7-10 and Jacob’s Staff Of Death Practiced. After Jacob’s encounter with God he makes a grand testimony in verse 10 of his utter worthlessness. He also in verse 10 crosses the Jordan River leaning upon his staff. The Jordan speaks of death to self. Our Lord has masterful ways for us to catch glimpses of ourselves. I am reminded of some greats from history who were only used because of their death to self. Madam Guyon in the early years of history exposed the Catholic Church. She was imprisoned and much of her writings are still kept in secret. Watchman Nee spent 25 years in a Chinese concentration camp. It was there that he wrote the great truths on the spiritual man. He challenged us to find the Holy of Holies inside of us where God dwells and seek to enter that place. These and many others paid a great price to lean upon the staff of death to self.
