The Decreasing Of Forgiveness
I want to muse today from I Samuel 24 and the story of David and Saul. If David is to forgive Saul and go on he must decrease while God increases. There are several times in the story where there are opportunities of decreasing. In order to decrease we must take the high road versus the low road. There are multiple occasions when Saul took the low road. (I Sam. 18:7-13, 19:1, 22:3-4, & 23:7-8) Surely it will be alright in our text for David to take Saul’s life and this one time take the low road. God never sanctions us to take the low road. We also see in this text the opportunities of decreasing in the idea of listening to man versus hearing from God. David was told by his men in the cave to kill Saul. He refused. Let us remember that we have no control over how people treat us but we do have control over how we respond.
