The Target Of Hope
Let us muse today from Colossians 1:5a and another of the Target of Paul’s Prayer of Thanks. We find here he gives thanks for the hope that is laid up for them in Heaven. The word ‘hope‘ here means the confident anticipation and expectation of pleasure. Paul reminds them of the fact of ‘it has been laid up’ and this is one of the causes for his thanksgiving. The phrase ‘laid up’ means something that awaits one because it has been reserved or appointed for the person. We find it has been personally laid up in Heaven for individuals. This gives a whole new meaning to the words of the Psalmist that said ‘at thy right hand are pleasures forever more’, When is the last time we thought upon what has been laid up for those of God’s people and it causes us to erupt into a prayer of thanksgiving. Let us remember when we get excited it will cause us to hope also.
