A Deepening Perseverance
Let us muse today from Colossians 1:23b and A Deepening Perseverance. If one is to persevere we must know something about being grounded and settled in the faith. The word ‘grounded’ has the idea of laying a firm foundation. Christ is the only firm foundation. The word ‘settled’ means to be seated in a fixed position. Once we have laid the foundation we must sit fixed upon that place. David lived through the days of Saul because he had purposed not to touch God’s anointed. Joseph overcame temptation because he purposed to keep himself clean. Moses refused to be called the son of Pharaoh’s daughter. Daniel and his friends overcame Babylonian captivity because they purposed in their heart to do so. It is my understanding that the Old Testament sacrifice had two hooks upon it to keep it from moving in the fire or falling off the altar. Grounded and settled sound like two good hooks to keep us steady as a persevering sacrifice unto our Lord.
