Fleeing From Legalism

Let us muse today again from Colossians 2:16 where we are reminded to flee from legalism. Paul begins in verse 16 with the word  therefore which gives us the basis of freedom. When we see the word therefore it always refers back to the previously discussed material. The basis of all our freedom depends on our completeness in Christ. There is nothing I do or don’t do that can affect that position. We are also confronted with the bondage of legalism. Anything that is imposed upon you from an outside source and comes with the thought, this will make you a better Christian, becomes only a yoke of bondage about your neck. In verse 16 I see the blessings of grace. If I relie on anything outward to enhance my Christian life, I am trading the substance of Christ for the shadow of the real thing.
