Living The Complete Life

Let us begin to muse today from Colossians 3:5-9 and the thought of living the complete life in Christ. Paul  in Colossians 3:1-4  gave us the positive side of our position in Christ and he now turns to the real work of living out what we have in Him. The first thought that Paul brings up is in verse five is where he says, mortify therefore your members which are  upon the earth. The word mortify means to put death. Because we have died with Christ, He has given us the power to slay all fleshly desires that seek to control us. How can this be? Paul says in Romans six we must reckon ourselves dead to sin and when we do sin is rendered powerless over us. Let us take heart to this example with the sin of impure thoughts.  When they come I go to the funeral home in my mind, get in a coffin, let the thoughts come by again, and reckon myself dead to those thoughts. Dead people don’t think dirty and I arise  to walk in newness of life.
