Amos’s Date Of Writing

Let us muse today from Amos 1:1 were Amos gives a pretty clear date of his book’s writing. He wrote during the days of King Uzziah over the southern kingdom of Judah, and King  Jeroboam  over  the northern kingdom. Both of these Kings were known for their rebellious spirit. You will remembered King Uzziah died as a leper. We are told that this coincided with an earthquake which happened two years before. Zechariah 14:5 mentioned this earthquake as one that put the people to fleeing from the land. It must have been awful for Zechariah to write about it 200 years later. In Amos 8:9 he mentions a total eclipse of the sun. The calculation of the astronomers puts this  total eclipse as June 15, 763 BC. It is amazing the little details God leaves us in His word that gives history credibility.
