Jonah’s State
Let us muse today from Jonah 1:7-10 and Jonah’s state. The text tells us that the men on board wanted to know if maybe one of the passengers had caused God to send this storm upon them. The Bible says they cast lots in verse seven and the lot fail on Jonah. Oh how our God is in control of the drawing of the short straw or the toss of the dice. You would almost think he was in sovereign control of all thing. This caused them to begin to ask questions. Where are you from? What is your occupation? Where are you going? When the men realized he was a Jewish preacher running from the God of creation they were exceedingly afraid according to verse 10. What a foolish thing for us to hang out in fellowship and friendship with those who are running from God. You never know when their sea might arise and their winds might blow up a storm and you will be caught up in the effects of another’s storm.
