Jonah’s Captivity

Let us muse today from Jonah 1:17b and Jonah’s captivity. The Bible says Jonah was three days and three nights in the belly of the whale. In Matthew 12:40 Jesus said as Jonah was three days and three nights in the whale’s belly, so shall the Son of Man be three days and three nights in the heart of the earth. In order for the parallel to be exact Jonah had to have died. What a grand picture of the Gospel that Jesus died, was buried, and the third day death could hold Him no longer and He arose.
