Nahum A Preface Of Favour
Let us begin to muse today from the book of Nahum and a section I have entitled a preface of favor. Very little is known about Nahum. One thing we know he was from a town called Elkosh. We cannot with certainty even know where this city was at. We do know that he was virtually unknown to this world and that God favored him with a position to announce the fall of Nineveh the greatest Assyrian enemy to Israel. We do know that Nahum’s name means compassion. When Jonah first announced their fall God spared them because they repented. It is 100 years later and God will destroy them this time. We find here the patience, long-suffering, and compassion of God’s mercy. We are reminded that God’s wheels of judgment turn slow, but they are precise and we’ll accomplish what they sets out to do. We see in the preface of favor that God is in Judah’s history.God even sends a man named compassion to deliever dreaded news to their enemy.
