A Deadly Sacrifice

Let us muse today from Zephaniah 1:7-13 where the prophet uses three pictures from Jewish history to describe the day of the Lord. In our text he speaks of a deadly sacrifice. In verses 7-8 we are told it is the Lord’s sacrifice and the Babylonians had been invited. The sacrifice would consist of the Jewish people and all that they had. The Babylonians will come in through the fish gate according to verse 10 which was the market and commercial part of the city. They would ransack and take all inside. The day of the Lord would be a similar  situation to this. All of this could have been avoided if the heart attitude of the people in verse 12 was not the Lord will do no good or evil against us. Mankind will be shocked when God stands and puts into operation the day of the Lord.
