The Provision Of The Earnest

We are musing these days on Romans 8 under the theme of Possessing Our Position. Today we continue to think upon the earnest or down payment of the Holy Ghost. He assures the child of God that the best is yet to come. In Romans 8:15 we are confronted with ‘The Provision Of The Earnest’. The precious earnest of the Holy Ghost provides the choice of adoption. Adoption is a powerful doctrine in the Bible. Paul says we have been given the spirit of adoption. To embrace adoption you will have to embrace election. To be adopted is to be picked from a group or to be preferred above another. When He adopted us He gave us a new name, a new family and puts a hedge of protection around us. We see also in verse 15 the earnest provides the cry of Abba. Whenever the hedge is lifted and the enemy comes in we need not fear but simply cry, ‘Abba Father’ which is Papa, Dada. That’s the down payment. Remember the best is yet to come. What a blessing to have been adopted by the Father, Son, and Holy Ghost.
