Musing Through Matthew- An Equaible Penalty

Let us muse again today from Matthew 5:38 and the theme of Jesus the King. In our text today our Lord gives an equitable penalty. The penalty was and eye for an eye and a tooth for a tooth. Our system today of imposing fines of dollar amounts is not hard upon the rich but only upon the poor. Our Lord’s penalty would cause all to pay the same price. If in anger you cause one to be hurt or die you would pay the same as you inflicted upon them. I fear if this was impose and swiftly it would deter men from crime. Is it not amazing how much sense our Lord’s ways make.
