Musing Through Matthew- Perfection Is Commanded
Let us muse again today from Matthew 5:48 our last verse in chapter 5 and the theme of Jesus the King. Our King stands on the mountain top of teaching in this text and commands His subjects to be perfect. Some have said the word perfect means mature. The word mature will not fit, I think it will be a stretch to get the Father to be mature. When the Father is mentioned sinless, holy, and perfect are the only things that come to mind. Our Father who commands always gives grace to fulfill the command. Paul tells us if any man be in Christ he is a new creature. The Father chose a people before the foundation of the world, placed them in His Son, and can see them no more for they are hidden in His Son. On the cross the Son became all that I am and suffered judgment because the Father could see no one on the cross but me. Because of the cross I became all that the Son is ( holy, sinless, perfect ) and now when the Father looks at me He sees no one but the Son.
