Musing Through Matthew- Fasting And Prayer

Let us muse again today from Matthew 6:16 and the theme of Jesus the King. In our text today our King deals with fasting and prayer. Let me say quickly this is not an area that I know a lot about but sense more of and need to know more than I ever had. I notice He says when you fast not if you fast. This tells me it should me a natural practice for God’s people to fast. If one fast let him not do it for the minor reward of the applause of men. Our Lord tells us not to fast and call attention to ourselves but to seek the pleasure of the Lord alone. Let it never be said of us, they have their reward. The Puritans called it soul fattening. Oh how our inward man needs to be brought into a closer relationship with Him and often it may only be done by fasting and prayer.
