Musing through Matthew- Jesus Asked Questions
Let us muse again today from Matthew 16: 13 – 16 and the theme of Jesus The King. In our study for today we find our Lord asking two questions. The first question, whom do men say that I am? Their answer was John the Baptist, Elias, Jeremiah or one of the prophets. Our Lord Jesus has the likeness of all the above answers. The belief is much like those of today who say, He was a good man, He was a wise man, and He was a great man. He was just a man. These answers will take a person to hell. The second question was but whom say ye that I am? Peter answered thou art the Christ, the son of the Living God. This is the answer of the truly redeemed. The Christ who is the Old Testament Messiah, the promised one, the son of the living God. These two titles are interchangeable. The living God who is the Son or the Son who is the living God. Oh to see Jesus as the great I am, the God man is so powerful. Jesus said in John 8: 24 if you believe not that I am ye shall die in your sins. How sad today to think of the great religions that do not believe Christ is God. It is clear from Jesus mouth they shall die in their sins. How would you answer this question but whom say ye that Jesus is?
