Do not confuse the doctrine of eternal security with perseverance. Many who teach eternal security, once saved always saved, lean towards a belief that even if you live your whole life in sin you will still end up in Heaven. Paul, in verse 23a, deals with a <em>Definite Perseverance<\/em> in the phrase, &#8216;if ye continue in the faith&#8217;. The word &#8216;if&#8217; here when used with this particular verb tense means &#8216;you will assuredly do&#8217;. The one who is truly saved will assuredly continue to live in the faith. It is not a question of &#8216;if you do this or that&#8217; you will be saved.
