I see here <em>the principle of<\/em> <em>counting<\/em>. His gains were counted as loss. Gain is in the plural while loss is singular. All that Paul gave up was singular, while what he gained from Christ was multiple. He gave up\u00a0a home and parents in Tarsus, hope for a\u00a0normal life, ambition to be head of the Jewish party, his health, and favour with the Jerusalem church, because of his ministry to the Gentiles. He counted all of that as dung or refuse in comparison to Christ. His great desire was that he might win Christ. No wonder he said <em>for me to live is Christ and die is gain<\/em>.
