In 1:1 we are told that Amos was from Tekoa. It was about six miles from Bethlehem. It was a desolate wilderness between the\u00a0dead sea,\u00a0wild hills, and valleys. It was a small-town on the\u00a0edge of nowhere.\u00a0In 7:14 we are told that Amos was<strong><em> a gather of sycamore fruit<\/em><\/strong>. This was the food of the very poor. It was like our fig. The word\u00a0gather is our word <strong><em>pincher<\/em><\/strong>. The fig pincher\u00a0would pinch\u00a0the fruit to hasten it to become ripe. So the great prophet was of a very humble beginning. He was a poor, uneducated, fig pincher.
