The Jewish nation was divided into two-part since the days of Solomon. Israel had 10 tribes and dwelt in the north. Amos was primarily a prophet to Israel. Judah had\u00a02 tribes and dwelt in the south. Most of the righteous\u00a0kings came from the line of Judah\u00a0including Christ.\u00a0Amos must have made Israel&#8217;s day when in verses 4-5 he\u00a0turns\u00a0the \u00a0judgment gun on Judah. The phrase for three transgressions and\u00a0for four\u00a0brings up God&#8217;s mercy line being crossed by Judah. They have committed the greatest spiritual evil. They have turned their backs on God&#8217;s word and failed to obey it. They even believe their own lies and for this God sends the fire of judgment that brings down the palaces of Jerusalem.
