It was the custom of\u00a0Edom to\u00a0set up roadblocks and tax\u00a0caravans traveling to the east. If they could not pay the tax they took all that they had. The Edomites\u00a0had caves full\u00a0of goods that had been\u00a0taken from others. In verse five God said if a grape stealer\u00a0came he would leave you a few grapes, but because you have no mercy upon those you taxed\u00a0when the\u00a0enemy comes he will take all they you\u00a0have.
