In chapter 2 Jonah used quotations of the Psalms in his prayer. There is a quote from Psalms 3, 5, 18, 31, 42, 69, 77, 116, and 120. This tells me a couple of interesting ideas. One is that Jonah was saturated with Scripture. When death begins to come one’s way that which we are full of will come out of us. Another idea is in verse two of chapter 2 when we find that God heard Jonah’s prayer. First John tells us if God hears us we have the petitioned for which we asked. A good way to get our prayers answered is to saturate them with God’s own word.

Let us muse today on the fact of the pronouncement in Jonah’s cry.
